Chapter 196 196 Rain
"it\'s a wolf–"
Alex who was at the back of the carriage quickly removed his daggers but before he could make a move the wolf knocked both of them outside the carriage.
"I\'m okay, keep going" Alex shouted as he crashed on the ground.
"Alex..." Melissa shouted and without thinking she jumped out of the carriage too.
"Stop the carriage, we have to save them" Rebecca shouted.
"I don\'t think that\'s a good idea, we\'ll go back for them after the wolves are off our tail" the rider spoke.
"Alex are you okay" Melissa shouted as she ran towards where he was.
"Why didn\'t you go with them, I can take care of this on my own," Alex said as he looked around himself.
"Are you sure you can?" Melissa asked as countless wolves exited the forest and surrounded both of them.
"Shit, this rain is making it harder to battle, I think we should run away, I\'m the only one good at close combat so you won\'t be able to..."
Alex stopped as the wolves charged towards him, even though it was night time he could still see as three of the wolves close to him moved into action.
The first wolf ran towards him aiming at his legs while the other two were planning to slash him with their claws but Alex was slightly faster than them.
He immediately vaulted past the wolf, aiming for his legs, and instead of fighting he rushed into the forest. The wolves quickly went after him as he tried to flee, but as soon as they dashed into the forest, the first wolf\'s throat was slit.
[Camouflage]
\'Perfect cover\' Alex smirked as he stood behind a tree, \'The rain is a perfect cover, I doubt any of the wolves would notice me... wait Melissa\' Alex mumbled as he dashed towards her.
Melissa stood her ground as she used her bow to protect herself from the wolves but they were too many for her to kill without her arrows but none of them were able to graze her.
*SQUELCH*
Melissa turned towards the sound and caught a silhouette of Alex before he disappeared and two dead wolves on the ground.
*GROWL*
Melissa heard the growl and swiftly turned around, two of the wolves were already in front of her and sprung to attack her with their sharp teeth. Melissa hurriedly swung her bow to stop them, but the animals outweighed her and knocked her to the ground.
The wolves strained to bite her with their fangs, but because Melissa\'s now was blocking their path, they were unable to get their teeth close enough to her face. Melissa clenched her bow tightly as she muster enough strength to shove them away.
She quickly stood up and took a stance, she looked around and the rest of the wolves were already dead, she immediately knew it was Alex\'s doing, the wolves in front of her were growling and barking at her and she slowly moved her hands behind her back and opened her inventory.
Before the wolves could make another move, she placed two arrows in her bow and shot both of the arrows straight into their skulls killing them immediately.
"Alex" Melissa shouted as she looked around.
"We have to keep moving" Alex spoke from behind her causing her to flinch.
"We can\'t catch up to the carriage, we should wait the rain out, maybe climb on a tall tree–like that one to avoid the wolves" Melissa pointed to a tree.
"What if it rains till morning, do we stay there till morning or what?" Alex asked.
"I don\'t know, maybe...you decide," Melissa said.
"I suggest we keep moving forward, they might be in trouble if they encounter more wolves"
"They...what about us, we can\'t outrun wolves you know that right, what if more wolves attack us, Rebecca isn\'t here to sense them so it\'s easier for them to attack us in the rain," Melissa said.
"Why should I be worried about us when you are right here?" Alex said as they walked forward.
"M-Me"
"Of course, with you here I have nothing to worry about so we should be worried about them not ourselves," Alex said.
"Maybe you are right" Melissa muttered with a smile on her face.
"Let\'s pick up the pace, I\'m sure they are far ahead of us"
"Let\'s see who\'s faster," Melissa said.
"Of course, you are much faster than me, my agility and yours are miles away from each other," Alex said.
"Then if you win, I\'ll give you anything you ask, anything at all, even if you ask for all my weapons" Melissa spoke.
"It seems you are underestimating me, you are on," Alex said as he dashed forward.
...
"Is it okay to stop here, are you sure?" the rider asked.
"Yes, none of the wolves are around this area so we are safe, we have to wait for Alex and Melissa," Rebecca said.
"Maybe we should go back, we moved quite far away, and they might have trouble catching up with us," Lynx said.
"Go back, we don\'t even know if they are alive or not, going back would put all of us at risk" the rider spoke.
"They are not dead, I\'m sure of that" Gabriel spoke.
"Then let\'s decide, should we wait here or go back for them?" Max asked.
"The rain isn\'t easing up, we should go back for them, Rebecca can tell us when a beast gets too close and we can deal with it," Lynx said.
"You are the only one capable of doing that, with the rain falling I can\'t shoot my fireballs and Max would have to climb down to fight, we should just run past them instead of fighting" Gabriel spoke.
"What if they hid themselves in trees to avoid the wolves and we run past them?" Max asked.
"So what should we do, we can\'t just wait here expecting them to catch up with us"
"I don\'t think we need to, Melissa is running towards us," Rebecca said.
